Leadership Formalizes New Engineering Partnership
Chinese students will complete studies here
DENVER – Delegates from China’s Northeast Forestry University (NEFU) visited Denver Nov. 2-4 to meet with faculty and leadership in CU Denver’s College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS). Among various activities, the delegates participated in an event to formalize a new educational partnership by signing a Memorandum of Collaboration.
Representing CU Denver were Provost Rod Nairn and CEAS Dean Mark Ingber. “The collaboration agreement in civil engineering opens a new pathway for international partnership in the College of Engineering and enlarges the family of strong relationships the University of Colorado Denver has established in China,” said Nairn.
In greeting the NEFU delegation, Nairn noted that the partnership between our universities in civil engineering seems all the more promising because it has been built upon a positive experience of faculty exchange and a successful educational experience for graduate students from your College of Civil Engineering. “We value the strong relationships that have already been developed through these early exchanges and trust that they are the ideal foundation for further collaboration.”
Through an interpreter, NEFU President and Professor Wu Guochun talked about NEFU as a comprehensive university that is looking for international partners to expand exchange programs and are pleased to start with the University of Colorado Denver. Initially, NEFU student will come to student in Denver, but the goal will be to bring CU Denver students to study in China as well.
“We look forward to future collaborations made possible by the signing of the agreement,” said CEAS Dean Ingber.
Through the agreement, fourth-year undergraduates from China will come to CU Denver to take their design courses in the Department of Civil Engineering, while at the same time beginning some graduate courses toward earning their master’s degree.
Civil Engineering Chair and Professor Kevin Rens, Professor Cheng Yu Li and International Affairs Assistant Vice Chancellor Carolyn North also were on hand for the signing.
